Coating Options
Avantier offers three different metallic coating options for these mirrors, each with its unique spectral characteristics:
- Aluminum: Aluminum coating provides a good general-purpose mirror with high reflectance in the visible range. It is commonly used for applications that require reflection within the visible spectrum.
- Silver: Silver-coated mirrors offer very high reflectance over the visible and near-infrared range, making silver an excellent choice when maximum reflectivity is needed in these wavelength regions.
- Gold: Gold coating is the preferred choice for infrared (IR) applications, especially at wavelengths greater than 2 microns. Gold-coated mirrors are well-suited for IR imaging and sensing applications.
These mirrors undergo a manufacturing process that begins with the application of a reflective metal film, which is subsequently followed by the addition of a dielectric overcoat. This dielectric overcoat serves a dual purpose: it provides protection to the underlying reflective metal layer while simultaneously augmenting the mirror’s overall reflectivity and performance.
